Romney sheds a tear, gets standing ovation at Londonderry stop

"The soldiers that I was with stood at attention and saluted. And I put my hand on my heart, and tears begin to well in your eyes, as you can imagine in a circumstance like that. I have five boys of my own. I imagined what it would be like to lose a son in a situation like that."

Romney unveils post-speech Iowa ads

The ad will begin airing today in Iowa, where recent polls show Romney falling behind former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee less than a month before the Iowa caucus. Huckabee is an ordained Baptist manager who has made inroads with religious conservatives.

Great speech by Romney....

and Huckabee is really scaring me :(

ROMNEY: RUDY WON'T BE PICK

Asked if Robertson's declaration of support for Giuliani would help bring social conservatives to the mayor's candidacy, Romney deadpanned, "Not at all." He then slammed Giuliani with, "I don't think the Republican Party will choose a pro-choice, pro-gay civil union candidate to lead our party."

he feels the same way I do.

Robertson backs Rudy despite abortion differences

Robertson said Wednesday he set aside his differences with Giuliani on issues such as abortion because he believes that fighting the war against terrorists is more urgent.

I can not believe what I am reading. I am with him on fighting the war on terror is VERY important, but come on we have other issues as well. THE ABORTION issue is another war that we have been fighting for a long time. I would understand the endorsement if it came from a senator, but a religious figure backing Rudy even though he doesn't agree on ABORTION which is a key issue for Christians. Rudy has shown us time and time again for him the social issues don't matter, and Christian voters are the biggest advocates for them. To me Pat Robertson has sold out of his morals and I am very disappointed him.

Romney Launches Tough-On-Terrorism Ad

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney aired a new television ad in Iowa casting himself as tough on terrorism, confronting one of the central themes of rival Rudy Giuliani's campaign.

In the 30-second ad, the former Massachusetts governor vows to strengthen U.S. intelligence agencies, increase the size of the military by at least 100,000 troops and to monitor calls made to the United States by suspected al-Qaida associates.

This is a very intelligent move on Romney's part because a common compliant is that he really doesn't portray and foreign policy skills, so now he is having this tough on terrorism ad which will hopefully help him out!

Romney Wins Iowa GOP Straw Poll

Romney Wins Iowa GOP Straw Poll

At the end of the day, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney took a step forward in his quest for the Republican nomination for president, easily winning the straw poll of party loyalists, taking 31.5 percent of the total votes cast for a total of 4,516. The results could provide Romney’s campaign with momentum going into the fall and almost certainly spells the end for one candidacy.

"The people of this great state have sent a message to the rest of the country," said Romney. "Change starts in Iowa."

“This important victory sends a signal to grassroots Republican activists across the country that we are working hard to earn their support, and that we are ready to begin the work of strengthening our economy, our military and our families,” Romney added in a statement issued by his campaign.

Romney - Behind the Scenes

Wow - this is one of the most interesting video clips I've ever scene. It gets very heated. (HT: Dean Barnett).

Apparently this talk-show host taped Romney's radio interview without Romney's knowledge. Romney passionately explains his commitment to his LDS faith, his pro-life position, etc... a must watch.

Update: My spelling error of "scene" was unintentional - but it's also slightly clever, so I'll leave it. The interview was with Mickelson at Iowa station WHO.

Update 2: If you follow the url, you will note that this video was posted by the Romney campaign - they are embracing this video.

Keeping it Clean?

I just have to comment on a recent bit of news that Romney is planning to unleash a series of proposals that would combat pornographic pop ups on the internet.

This seems like a slippery slope because it will automatically be called an impingement on free speech. Sure anyone would like to have a filter that keeps those nasty emails and pop ups away but how would that be done? Personally, I have had debates with porn lovers who can't stand the idea that porn would be restricted at all, they really freak out and start by shouting that their freedom of speech is being taken away. Even if the restrictions apply to kids and would be for parent's use. It's a little crazy.

I haven't seen or heard what Romney proposes so this should be interesting when he gets around to it. He might be better off with hitting the war topic.

In the meantime, Hugh Hewitt has a book on Mitt Romney and his presidential bid. I happen to like HH's other books and would think this book is worth perusing at least.
